The Croydon Ranges Hockey Club are saddened to learn that Lewis Gates is currently in a Geelong Hospital where he is suffering from an inoperable pancreas cancer.

Lewis commenced his hockey career with Croydon in the 1960’s playing with Croydon though to the mid 1980’s. Lewis continued playing hockey post Croydon, with clubs including Geelong and Brunswick.

In 2016 Lewis became the oldest male hockey player in the world, when playing as a goalie for the Brunswick Hockey Club Masters over 50’s. Lewis played hockey for nearly 70 yrs

The thoughts and prays of the Croydon Ranges Hockey Club are with Lewis Gates (93 yrs) and his family at this time.
