Impact on 2020 season

8 Jul 2020 by James Liggins

Good Afternoon all,

Yesterday the premier announced residents of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell shire will return to stage 3 lockdown from midnight, Wednesday 8 July (tonight) for six weeks. This will clearly have a direct impact on our ability to proceed with the Hockey Victoria 2020 Winter Season as planned. Effective immediately, Hockey Victoria will suspend all HV hockey activities and encourage clubs in metropolitan Melbourne to suspend all training activities.

A special thanks goes out to the tireless work our club committee has been doing over the past few months to ensure the safe return to hockey for Croydon. Also thank you to the members who banded together to provide fitness sessions for our senior teams, in particular, thank you to Karl Munton & Scott Jolly.

The club is still awaiting official communication from Hockey Victoria in relation to the outcome of the 2020 winter season, once we receive this information we will then forward this to all members.

If the season is to be called off in 2020, the club will look to process any refunds or credit players for 2021 season in due time.

We hope that when it is safe to play the club will be looking to conduct a social summer intra-club competition. An intra-club competition will allow participants to play at one venue with minimal travel in a social relax environment. So stay tuned!

Thank you all again for your ongoing support of the club and know that we certainly have a lot to look forward to to the back end of this season/start of the 2021 season.

Stay safe.

All the best.

James Liggins
Club President
Croydon Ranges Hockey Club
